So I'm not sure what I'm actually wishing for -- perhaps that people would grow up into the kind of grown-ups I thought all grown-ups were when I was five?

This so much. One of the things I realized when I made that transition to adulthood is that you never truly ever "grow up." Some people will mature more than others, but there are times when that middle/high school part of you comes out in the worst ways. It's always there. It's just as you get older you learn to check it and not let it get the best of you.

I've been in enough fandoms to see this type of thing happen over and over again. It's kind of depressing, but not surprising. I'm kind of a masochist and I'm resisting the urge to go over to that comm, because I know I'll regret it.
