It really is. They only had to create that one bit of space!magic/phlebotinum and everything else flowed from there, which is really brilliant worldbuilding.

I'm still a little confused about how ME ships using 'conventional' FTL get above c (they can reach c because they're massless at that point), but since that issue never even occurred to me until just now when I was trying to pick apart how different systems work, I'm totally willing to let it slide.
