I really want to keep earth in the picture, mostly because I don't want it to be that far in the future, so there isn't time for a new parent-colony to develop all the way to industrialized power and decadence.

I'd forgotten how crazy the Firefly map is. I think the show is better that way. Their astronavigation only works if you don't think about it.
