Doot, doot, doot, lookin' out my backdoor

Garden pictures for [livejournal.com profile] nei_tan!

These are kind of 'idealistic before' pictures, because I took them before the yard work I plan to do today. I'm in on the computer crossing my fingers that the clouds will roll away.

My flowering red currant is flowering! It hasn't grown any hummingbirds yet, but it's still the prettiest thing in my garden.

The view from the backdoor. Extra cinderblocks, lighter fluid, long grass, and a terracotta pot with something dead in it. Looks like hicksville to me! The pot with something alive in it holds a stargazer lilly, the wine barrel is where the flowering red currant lives. Also, I no longer use lighter fluid. Dad bought me a chimney, which works far better and doesn't burn petroleum! Hooray!

Here's the whole back yard in it's disheveled glory. I'm standing right next the all-consuming blackberry mountain, so you can't see those. Mom planted the wine barrel in front wit herbs for me when I moved in. I grow veg along the wall of the house - the bed in the right foreground is the one Erik dug out for me last autumn.

There are radishes in here, I swear! I pulled up 2-foot-tall-weeds, blackberries, and nightshade to make this bed. That was before I had an Erik.

This is the front bed. I've got dirt, not soil, which is why it looks like it's about to blow away. Erik doubled the size for me a few weeks ago, hence the concentrated growth in one corner. This is the only part of the yard that's mowed, thanks to my new next-door neighbor, who is also an alumnus of my alma mater.

The front is all flowers -- lavender, two lillies, english daisies, poppies, bulbs. I'm trying to start some rosemary cuttings in the new part, but I'm not trying very hard.

This isn't really the garden, but:

Welcome to the Jungle! (It gets worse here every day).
Erik decided I needed houseplants for my birthday. I've kept my jungle alive a whole month! (Bromeliad and China Doll tree).

Okay, now I'm actually going to go work in the garden.
