Happy new year!
2008 started off amazingly productive, dipped into a hectic and financially painful dive towards mid-year, involved both the best and worst work experiences ever, and finally descended into depressive stress only to be salvaged New year's eve. Pretty damn dramatic, all told.
Lots of firsts for me --
I had art in a gallery, and it sold
Someone I didn't know bought my art AND commissioned more
I did a piece of genuine illustration, and because of it...
I met Ursula K. Le Guin
I rode a century! (with a lot of help and encouragement from Brad)
Erik and I have been together a whole year - first time I've managed that with someone who's in the same vicinity
Otter's Holt formed, practiced, and played in public
Less monumental, bust still important -
I built Gonzales
I finally, finally revamped Skellington Art
Wrote two tunes (The Wrong Waltz and Nancy's Sparrow) - something I haven't done since 2001.
Attended
bluwyngz and
pyoorexcuse's wedding
Found a cool new room-mate
So, compared to my goals this time last year, I'd say two out of three ain't bad. I've done a lot of art and music, and though I didn't comic, I realized how much I miss that and illustration, and I'm going to work on it in 2009. One of my major goals is acquiring a light-table, to encourage illustration and comics.
That was...decadent. I feel all naked and exposed. Erik and I went out to Nisqually Sunday afternoon, to see if we could see the baby Wols. I've been ill. I just installed TextPattern on a subdomain of www.skellingtonart.com, because I finally realized that I am incapable of understanding or judging CMS by reading their literature - I have to play with it. I'm glad I sleep upstairs. I'm back from Fiddle Tunes, worn out and broke and full of half-learned tunes, as expected. So, I've been hiding some amazingly exciting news. My dear [info]emony42 spec'd out a truly awesome machine for me, the parts of which I just purchased, with one upgrade, for more than I'm comfortable paying for anything. I wandered onto LJ this morning before I'd had my coffee, and found Warren Ellis, a man I've always assumed lived off nicotine, the cries of the innocent, and red bull spiked with cocaine, demonstrating recipes. Back at work...and the first job waiting for me is a pile of Wizard of Earthsea posters for me to sign. I'm watching Roy Zimmerman on YouTube while waiting for Dad and Gerald to show up for some Otter's Holt practicing, after which Erik will come by with his guitar and there might be singing.
