I FINALLY finished tearing down all the ratty old drywall in the garage! Three cheers! (I still have to clean the mess. Ick).

The drywall had to come down partly because it was old, beaten up, and nicotine stained, but mostly because the garage isn't insulated at all and only has one electrical circuit, powering a single outlet and one bare bulb. I'll need a good deal more than that for it to be a working studio -- or for it to be a working modern garage for anyone who lives here after me, for that matter.

I'm not sure whether the next stage is designing and building the carriage doors to replace the current overhead door and opener, or finalizing the new windows and getting quotes for that. I'll probably end up installing them with Dad's help, but getting a quote is free, and if a contractor installs them they'll do the running around for a permit (new window framing, new holes, nasty neighbor, necessary permit). The doors are a little confusing only because I would love to have windows in them, but it would be far nicer to do the rest of the work in there without the overhead door in the way.

In non-garage/studio house news, I desperately need a new bathroom fan, and to vent it through the roof (a five foot run) instead of through the gable (a 12 foot run which isn't properly downhill). I'm considering getting an inline fan, since I have the full attic to play in, and venting the tiny master bath while I'm at it (it has a window and no shower, so it doesn't technically require a fan, but I'd love to add on to it someday). For a price difference of less than $50, I think it might be worth it.
