My friend Nancy has a ranch, and the ranch has a barn, and the barn has feral cats, and the cats have kittens. I took home four kittens to socialize to help her out (and 'cause hey! kittens!). I've had 'em for almost two weeks now, so introductions are in order.

From smallest to largest:

Monkey is a teeny tiny cuddle-bug who is pretty sure I'm mom. Can't blame him for being confused: he and his sister were either abandoned by their dam or stolen from her. They ended up with Roomba's litter, and probably didn't get enough to eat for a bit. Then someone from work said they'd adopt him, took him home, and brought him back the next day. With much rearrangement of schedules and borrowing of cars, I got him home and reunited with his sibling.

Monks likes to sit on my right foot whenever my lap is unavailable. He's the favorite of any human who hangs around long enough to realize that his sister Squeaker is a bit obnoxious. Otherwise, people love Squeaker...

Squeaker is Monkey's sister: pretty, bold, brave, and occasionally dumb (this goes with being brave; it also goes with being a kitten). She's vocal, too, so when she gets herself lost in a paper bag, or squeaks out under a door and finds herself ALONE!OMG!111!!!!, she lets everyone know. She charmed the socks off our D&D group by trying to steal Erik's entire slice of pizza. I like to think she cries less now that they're in a bigger room and more comfortable with life, but I may be fooling myself. Because she's pretty.

Roomba has a tiny squeak of a voice and a giant, rumbling purr. She was very shy and still goes through very skittish moments, but she loves to be cuddled. She even loves to have her belly rubbed. She's very non-demanding, it took her awhile to brave the Squeaker & Monkey show on my lap. After giving her some one on one attention she finally approached on her own and waited patiently with one paw on my knee until I scooted the rambunctious littles over. Now she manages it herself.

Horatio is several weeks older than the others, at least half a pound heavier, and the only longhair, so he got a more dignified name. His siblings are all being fostered with a different coworker, but when Nancy tried to catch 'em he skedaddled and successfully hid for two weeks. Horatio's been my tough case; he thinks humans are fantastic to play with but isn't convinced they've got much to offer otherwise. Tonight, after almost two weeks of Regular Enforced Cuddle Time, he finally jumped in my lap and purred. Horatio occasionally plays too roughly with his littler cousins, and at his age he's really ready for his new home as soon as I can find him one.

I'm looking for permanent homes for at least two kittens*. I'm torn between keeping Monkey & Squeaker, who are quite fond of each other, or Roomba. [livejournal.com profile] madalchemist is certain they know they're being auditioned and being extra cute, and it'l all change later. Of course, he still yelled "Kitty!" when I was playing with one today. Even the cynical cannot resist The Power Of Kittens.

He has a point, too. Squeaker sat on her haunches and stared at me the entire time I played fiddle around them. Can she really know my weak spots so well?

Oh, sooo cute! I waaaaant one. I wish you could ship kitties abroad without damaging them for life. I read a book a while back in which a couple moved from New York to somewhere in France (can't remember where) and the woman wanted to bring her FIFTEEN cats with her. This was completely beyond the french (as I expect it is for most people). They kept pointing out that there were plenty of cats in France. To which she replied, "Yes, and I will adopt some of those too, but I want to bring these cats with me." Got to love that amount of devotion.

Anyway, good luck deciding. That's a hard choice.

What's your time frame on finding homes for them? Depending on how many hours I do end up getting at my new Job, I may finally be looking to get a cat, but I won't know for sure for another Month or so yet, until after we get settled into the new place.
