I had a pretty fantastic weekend, all things considered. I'm not caught up by any means but it was at least solidly productive. I spent almost all of Friday painting and made some serious progress on the forest-sheep commission. It's late, it wasn't going well, and the commissioner had emailed me asking about it, which naturally makes me feel guilty and less interested in working on it. Friday I turned a corner was nice. Some of it was having dedicated time and making sure I had what I wanted to do lined up; some of it was remembering that I own not one but two table easels that totally solve the glare problem, some of it was just... that thing where the art works.
I wanted to do more art all weekend, but there was too much else to do. Saturday was devoted to music and music obligations -- prep for voice lesson*, voice lesson, band practice, and then desert downtown so we could hear Lavonne Hardison and Joe Baque perform. (Amazing jazz. Look 'em up!).
Today was grocery shopping and dinner-making and trying to be outside as much as possible despite the long list of Inside Things I needed to get done. I found morels in my flower bed and harvested them -- they're currently drying in the oven. I let myself play a little minecraft.
What I failed to do was write. Once again, the chapter will be late. My chapters are normally between 10 and 12 pages, and I'm sitting pretty at... one. I had nothing prewritten or sitting in the hangar queen for this one; I'm losing steam as I near the end. I'm not sure if I've just got too much going on or if I lost my oomph when I finally hit the big romantic reveal. It's not important either way; even if it is just a fanwork I need to know I can finish something this big, so I'll definitely see it out.
My yarden is still a disaster, I've totally given up on the whole idea of the seriously belated new Year's cards (which is almost a relief), and I'm no further on the studio... but I can't really say I misspent my weekend. There just wasn't enough of it.
Oh well, keep on digging and all that. Off to the dirt mines.
*If anyone knows a scorewriting program that costs less than $50 and isn't a gigantic pain the ass, let me know. Everything I've tried is seriously counter-intuitive.
