One step closer to construction
August 24th, 2012 04:22 pmI've spent the whole day working on the plans for my remodel. It seems pretty ridiculous given that no exterior or load-bearing walls are changing, but I'm trying to note everything. I thought I'd get them finished, printed (in triplicate, yeesh), and turned in today, but then I remembered at 2 that I needed a site plan. And the site plan needed to reflect the property line, not the weird extra ten feet of city property my yarden plan shows (it's mine for all useful purposes, but if I tried to claim it the city might take it away). So then I remeasured things and redrew them from the yarden plan, and looked up parcel numbers, and by the time they were decent it was ten to four, my printer was out of ink, and there was no way I was making it to a copy center and then to city hall on my bike before five.
It's really frustrating, because after so long with no progress I really, really want to get things moving, but it's probably for the best. This way dad'll have a chance to look over the plans and catch anything I'm missing.
Then Monday I'll take them to city hall (its near my work) and see if they agree that the gravel parking area along the front of the property counts as 'hard surface off street parking' -- because if it doesn't, they'll probably deny the permit. Apparently they want two off-street hard-surface parking areas per house, and my garage was counting as one (despite the fact that NO ONE parks in 1960s single car garages, and they usually only store crap).
If it's denied I'll probably call my dad in tears of frustration, and he'll put on his lawyer hat and coach me through asking for a variance.
It's good to have a plan.
Now I'm going to go shower and make my legs all girly with that sugar concoction that's been going around tumblr, because I can't think in square feet and stress over span anymore. :(
