Beaurocracy is as beaurocracy does(n't)

Monday I got an email notice from Puget Sound Energy saying they'd approved my $50 rebate (for the energy efficient clothes washer) and the cash card was in the mail.

Monday I also got a a postcard from Puget Sound Energy saying they were sorry, but they'd rejected my application for a rebate for an energy efficient clothes washer, because the dates were incorrect.

I sent them an email asking them to confirm that I was getting the rebate (obviously I'd rather they confirm that than the post card).

Today I received an email that read:

Dear S,

Thank you for contacting Puget Sound Energy with your (*purpose).

I for one totally believe that was written by a human being and not a bot. :D

I think Bearocracy would make for a better system. Anyone doing something stupid like this gets eaten by bears.

On the one hand, I totally agree with you.

On the other hand, I just received the $50 rebate card, and it has $100 on it. So apparently beaurocracy screwed up in my favor this time! I'm kind of stunned.

I think this has to be some kind of Motie or Thark thing, because the usual "left hand, right hand" just doesn't have enough actors to cause that kind of messup ;)
