First, getting the bad out of the way:

A weeks ago I ordered Adobe CS6 from adorama. The box arrived a few days ago, but I didn't open it until Sunday -- and it's the mac version. It's also, according to their website, non-refundable. I'm calling them shortly to see if there's any wiggle room there; if not, it goes up on ebay -- but I may have lost my chance at buying the software through legit channels.

I think I may have lost the necklace I wore to folklife, which was a gift I received in high school as thanks for playing at a dear family friend's memorial service. Didn't realize it wasn't in the box until yesterday, and it always had a tendency of coming loose.

I can't start work on the studio next week, because it requires help from dad, and dad is bringing my little brother back home from Ellensburg. I knew that, but somehow hadn't made the connection. Just another week waiting when I want to get going.

But there were marvelous things this weekend, too!

E and I went to see Robin Hobb speak at the library.

Friends of ours had a party at their farm, so we got to go to a pretty place and look and chickens and scritch goats. SO MANY GOATS. Goats apparently think they're cats -- they climb up on the chair you're on and try to be lap goats, and like their chins scritched. SO MUCH GOAT SCRITCHING. (Incidentally, one of the people there was totally confused by the word 'scritch,' which I always thought was self explanatory -- E explained it to her as a much shorter, more rapid motion than 'scratch').

The farm party (heheh) was a little awkward, because we know both halves of the couple through different vectors, but we knew almost no one else there. It was saved perfectly, though -- an acquaintance of ours showed up, and mentioned that she had to leave soon to catch her partner performing at Swing, the wine bar, so we decided we needed to leave to see him play, too, and were able to gracefully cut the evening short. Stopped back at home, changed clothes, picked up the new housemate, and went out for drinks, desert, and jazz.

It was excellent jazz. I'm not sure if I've mentioned before, but LaVon Hardison is an amazingly fun performer. Vince Brown plays regularly at Swing, and he's great (and a nice guy), but I particularly love when he plays with LaVon. Sadly it's a very background-music kind of setting, so she doesn't shine like she can up on stage, but it was still a blast -- especially when the crowd filtered away, they realized that the only people still in the audience were the musical 'in' crowd, and she started scatting over the chords for "Smells Like Team Spirit."

(Naturally, new housemate is now even more convinced I know everyone in Olympia).

Oh, and there was game night, and massive amounts of weeding (to try to get over my Sunday funk), some cuddling-in-front-of-the-teevee, and I got the garage tidied, if not as cleared out as it needs to be.

They make it really difficult to find, but adobe is still selling cs6, and is claiming that they won't stop; you can get it on their site here: http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/cs6._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_creativesuite6.html?promoid=KFPRM

I think they weren't quite expecting the level of blowback they got.

Whilst not a musician in the accepted meaning of the term, I still enjoy enormously listening to musicians playing with & for each other rather than the usual "playing for the punters". Fortunately there are a few musos 'round here that seem to enjoy playing for each other to such an extent that the "for the punters" effect gets lost in the general fervour and they are pure fun to watch/listen to. Fiona Pears and our own Hot Club Sandwich spring to mind readily.
