my fifty cents

Stay away from the black hole of doooom!!!
And don't even think about compromising doing what you like in favor of stability. Stability? Pheh. Who needs it? One conversation we had a long time ago kept coming to mind while I was in Italy... something about how when you were staying in France you could make enough during the day playing on the street to cover your daily room & board. I told that to people and they made little envious 'ooohs'.
Okay, so keeping yourself alive indefinitely under those conditions may be a wee bit optimistic. Okay, ridiculously so....

I just know that MY parents compromised their lives by sticking with jobs they really find no pleasure in, so I get a bit of nudging in the opposite direction that you do, I think. That, and that the people I see who have awesome success in unusual fields usually only get that way with extreme amounts of stubborness. I sense much stubborness in you.
Alright, this is the gist of what me mum says after walking by: a little reality is pretty important, so get a job working as an underling for someone with a job you like and get a better idea of what it involves (I mentioned the architect bit). She also says you need to move into a big house full of artists and musicians (and then tell her about it so she can live vicariously)!

All in all, I'm a bit biased because this is an argument I've developed to passionately preach to myself over and over since I'm gonna be facing the same problem soon. And y'know what? You already seem to have a good idea of the situation and are weighing the options all marvelously. And y'know what? I've been typing a hell of a lot just for a comment post. I think I'll stop now.

Later. I'm back from Italy. We should hang out. Follow the best brain/heart compromise you can find and I'll come rescue you from any black holes you fall into.
