Editors for plain English
May 1st, 2007 06:46 pmI made an icon (finally!) of my new proofreader's mark. I developed it while working for cbd, and I encourage it's use! If you like that sort of thing, I recommend a visit to The Campaign for Plain English. My red pen and I approve.
It's a kind of interesting week so far. The article I wrote for EMG-zine is up. It was very last minute and not, not, NOT my best work, but it does make me feel like doing more real writing, article-stuff and fiction. To reinforce that, my characters sprung a few things on me this morning (see earlier post), and while it was a little weird, I'm always thrilled when they show their independence. They better - left to my own devices, none of the story will ever get down.
The grand FiddleTunes house plan fell through, so I bit the bullet and signed up for the spendy dorms'n'food deal. I had a few floor-surfing offers, but imposing on people, trying to catch people and keys, and coming in at 3 am is too much on top of an intense week.
Session tonight was fantastic. Loopy, but fantastic. It was a real slagging* night. After Barbara and Mike left Kevin started his normal screwing around, and we humored him. Six measures later you have "Uncle John's Band" played by guitar, fiddle, bodhran, and hammered dulcimer. Tom took it into a reel. I played around finding Bad Moon Rising, took that into Road to Lisdoonvarna. For next week, I shall work on Joy to the Worl d- Three Dog Night version, obviously. I think it might work well with a G reel.
*Slagging: The fine art of insulting one's friends in public. For example:
Patron: What's that instrument you're playing?
Tom: Hammered Dulcimer. These are the hammers. This is the dulcimer.
Kevin: And it sounds really good when it's played well.
