Not that you're looking for my advice, but I think that if you can afford it a gas tank-less water heater would be the best option of the three you listed. It has a much longer lifespan and since you only heat the water you need, it is a money saver in the long run.

I think that's what I'm going to go with, though I'm not entirely sure it saves more money than an optimally installed heat pump heater, since heat pumps are apparently magic. I don't have an optimal installation set-up, so it's moot!

And I get 75% back -- up to 950$ --- from PSE for switching it to gas, which helps a LOT.
