I was going to spend today working on graphics for InfoCare which need to be roughed by Thursday, but Rob sent me an e-mail about a small business owner he knew looking for a webpage. He asked, sensibly, where my own page could be found. Of course as most of you know 'my' webpage exists only in prototype form on the school's servers. The best example of client work I have, Lummi, isn't official yet (and the version online is old). /butchnspike was quick and never intended to be a show of brilliant design, site wise (I'll get there, but not yet). ALL of my web class pieces were optimised for Safari - Internet Exploder, predictably, explodes them.
I sent Rob three links - Lummi and SkellingtonArt on the WWU servers and Butchnspike at the bugle. I sent along a note - please don't forward these links until this evening. So, as of that e-mail, I had around 9 hours to do several weeks worth of work.
Sounds like a job for...GRAPHIC DESIGNER ADRENELINE! Lummi, BS, SkellingtonArt, AND EcoEx all have to be workable by this evening (Eco will link from Skart). That means making things which worked only in Safari or Firefox work on Internet exploder, since I don't know what this potential client uses, fixing functionality problems, and making a stab at obvious design problems.
I just kicked IE's ASS when redoing Eco Explorations. I'll post the link after I upload it. THe site now looks ALMOST the same in Firefox and IE. Skellington Art, non-php version, needs to be navigable with a new obvious web design section - that's what I do tonight. Once on campus there's these 'class' things I need to remember, so I'll also be in the painting studio. Want a good time? Come to the art department after 6pm. Plus, doorprizes - you can keep anything I throw at you!
Anyway, this is like getting cold water in the face - a nessecary wakeup. I've been lumping 'real' hosting space and working on my portfolio under 'personal' activities. Design is currently the ONLY way I'm making money, and despite my best efforts it looks to stay that way. That website is now second on the list of 'professional' activities, right after the infocare deadline this week. I'm doing host research and buying myself some cred this weekend. At this point I can't afford not to.
Naturally, if anyone has a host to recommend, speak up.
