They're making a new Sweeney Todd.
I am a huge fan of Sweeney Todd (and Sondheim's musicals in general, with the exception of Sunday in the Park with George). The DVD of the original broadway cast (Angela Lansbury! Watch Sweeney Todd then watch Beauty and the Beast, it'll screw up your impressions of her for life) is part of my very limited, even exclusive, DVD collection.
As if that wasn't enough, check out the casting.
Two. Favorite. Actors. Ever.
The sexy-meter is reading in the red. And they're playing an unhinged mass murderer and a cold-blooded rapist with a masochistic streak and designs on the girl he raised as his daughter. It is so f*cked up. And I'm going to love it soooo much.
Okay, I'm breathing properly again now. As you were.
On a more intellectual note, making Sweeney attractive is a brilliant casting decision, because it makes all the twisted anti-morality work even better - Western's production with that hot grad student is an excellent example. But making Judge Turpin sexy...that's just plain kinky.
