shadesofmauve: (can we fix it?)
Y'know that renter who was supposed to move in Saturday, bringing with her my longed-for financial security?

She didn't show up.

She didn't show up today, either.

I've sent her a text message and called once, with no response.

She left a hundred dollar deposit and a small amount of reasonably nice stuff.

The university she's supposedly attending starts classes tomorrow.

What the flying fuck?

That really sucks. D:

Flaky people are the worst surprises ever.

That is incredibly strange.

Uh, if she doesn't show, double-check how long you have to hold the room/deposit before for her (esp. if there are laws around that).

I'm especially sympathetic at the moment as I'm dealing with financial issues to do with someone else too.

Hell truly is other people sometimes.

Possibly you should file a missing person report?

It can't hurt. I found this definition of a missing person case over at the Olympia PD web site: Unaccounted absence – the condition in which an adult has failed to appear for one or more obligations (work, appointments, meals, etc.) and is not present in other locations where they logically would be, given normal routines.
Call the police department's non-emergency number and see if they can do anything. If she's registered for school, then undoubtedly the university will have further info on previous addresses and emergency contacts.

The thing about missing person reports is that they are probably treated like collected evidence. They'll compare it to other files and file it for future reference if they have no cause to go looking immediately. So whether they seem to take you seriously or not, you'll be giving them a handy tool to be better aware of whether or not anything's happened to her.

But, if all you've got for identification is her description, first name and last name, they probably can't do much more than you have already done in terms of tracking her down at this stage.

Oh, wait, but they might have the authority to further identify her by her phone number!

Grrr. I've been getting really sick of flakiness and non-returning of contact attempts over the last few months myself. Something going around :P

OK, sorry, I skipped a step there. My problem with flakiness has always been that, even when I know someone's a flake, I can't write it off as such. I get worried if something's gone horribly wrong every time, and it's really been stressing me the fuck out over the last few months.

...is she still AWOL? Yikes. That is freaky.

Oh that is not good. All I can do is offer some well wishes your way, and hope that the person is just a flake rather than something seriously bad happened to them.
